π§Conserve water. Save energy. Lower bills. Protect our limited supply.
π Why should you conserve?
- Conservation reduces energy use and water bills.
- Conservation lessens the strain on WASCO’s distribution system thereby improving supply for everyone islandwide.
β
Quick Wins
- Fix leaks fast: A dripping tap wastes up to 2 gallons/hour; a leaking toilet can waste up to 40,000 gallons in 6 months.
- Check toilets: Add food dye to the tank—if color shows in the bowl, you have a leak.
- Smart flushing: Place bottles/bricks in the tank to cut flush volume.
- Meter check: If your meter moves when no water is used, you have a leak.
π At Home
- Keep showers short.
- Don’t leave water running while lathering, shaving or brushing teeth.
- Reuse grey water - sink/laundry water can be used for plants.
- Evening watering - less evaporation, more absorption.
- Practice rainwater harvesting: Install tanks and guttering for storage and non-potable uses.
π Outdoors
- Ditch the hose, use a bucket to wash cars and water plants.
- Report water losses/leaks. Spot broken pipes, open hydrants, or faulty sprinklers? Report it to WASCO's Control Room @ 4820052 (North) or 482-0051 (South).
- Community support - share tips with neighbors, encourage conservation at workplaces and schools.
π¨π©π§ Teach & Practice
- Show children how to turn taps off tightly.
- Match laundry load to water level.
- Soak pots/pans instead using running water.
- Don’t let water storage containers overflow.
π Remember
Every action matters. Every drop counts. Conserve water because it’s the right thing to do - whether at home, work, or even at hotels. Together, we can secure Saint Lucia’s water future.
